Fluticasone propionate drops (400mcg) twice daily (BD) were found to bring greater effects than the spray formulation (100mcg) in decreasing nasal polyp size, and improving symptoms over a period of 12 weeks.1,2,*
Nasal polyp size decreased in all groups, but the best improvements were seen in patients using drops1.
Total nasal volumes increased in those patients using drops1.
Observations from this study support previous findings that treatment with Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Drops “decreased the need for surgery in cases in which endoscopic sinus surgery was indicated” vs placebo1,3.
Conclusion
“Nasal drop preparation of fluticasone propionate given twice daily showed the highest efficacy in increasing total nasal volume, decreasing nasal polyp size, and improving smelling and nasal blockage vs spray or once daily drop.”
